My very sneaky co-workers threw me a surprise baby shower a couple Saturdays ago. My husband, mom and sister were in on it, too, the scheming lot! I showed up at Robyn’s house expecting a simple trip to La Creperie for brunch and instead got one thousand presents, El Pollo Loco, and lots of Inez’s gourmet cupcakes, not to mention a really fun afternoon with some of my favorite people. I’m having my baby in a month, so I’m out of here in one week. Say it ain’t so! Maybe HKA will still let me blog here. Yes? No? Maybe? PLEASE?

April 6, 2009Kenny & Me
March 6, 2009
(We look like a couple! Do we not??)
Last night Robyn treated me to the Pacific Symphony for my birthday. Who should be playing with the Symphony that evening? None other than THE Kenny Loggins. No, NOT Kenny G. … Kenny Loggins. You know, Loggins and Messina, Loggins and Winnie the Pooh, Loggins and Danger Zone (Top Gun)? That’s right – THAT Loggins.
Robyn knows all the right people, so of course we met him in the VIP area downstairs along with some of our friends from client Farmers & Merchants Bank, as they sponsored the show. Kenny put on a GREAT show. I was surprised to know most of the songs including House at Pooh Corner (which he wrote when he was a senior in high school), which I’d never really liked ’til last night, Footloose, which had us wanting to shake our feet, but what to do about proper symphony decorum? Conviction of the Heart, Celebrate Me Home, Whenever I Call You Friend (wish Stevie Nicks could have made it – who knew that song was by them?).
When I got my 2-second photo op with him I told him I liked his jacket (blue velvet!) and he said something about my pregnant belly, like, “That BETTER be a baby in there.” No idea what that means. I should have told him, “Even though I ain’t got money, I’m so in love with ya honey.”

One Hot Year of Henry
January 14, 2009
Taking a moment to look back, I must say our client Henry Walker, CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bank, was definitely a star in 2008. Here are some of his outstanding accomplishments:
· March 2008 – Henry is named CEO, becoming the youngest bank CEO in the state and head of California’s strongest bank. He was preceded by his father Kenneth, who was preceded by his father Gus, who was preceded by his father C.J. who started the bank in 1907. Phew! This family is not going anywhere!
· June 2008 – Henry becomes a featured blogger at OCMetro.com, sharing valuable insights into navigating through tough economic times as well as some of his philanthropic and personal interests and how they have changed his outlook on life and business.
· July 2008 – F&M is a Yankee Doodle Dandy at the Huntington Beach parade – red, white and blue balloons and all!

· September 2008 – Henry celebrates his father’s 60th year with the bank. Like I said, this family is here to stay! Kenneth, now 81, started at age 11 as an elevator operator and groundskeeper at F&M. Congratulations, Kenneth!
· September 2008 – Banks are failing all over the place and Henry is here to save the day! F&M, being the strongest bank in the state, soars in success because of their unwavering conservative approach to safeguarding their clients’ accounts. (more…)
